Welcome to the Green Clean Maine Blog
We launch a blog for the first time, and will use it to keep you updated on our response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Now is the Time
For years, I’ve been wanting to start a blog for Green Clean Maine. Trouble is, when you are building and running a small business there doesn’t ever seem to be time for it. Besides, we’ve always gotten great attention through word of mouth. Word about a good cleaning service travels fast, it turns out!
Then, over the past 7 days, everything changed.
The Coronavirus pandemic has brought our operation to a screeching halt. In a matter of days, we had lost 25% of our clients (temporarily, at least). More and more staff needed to stay home to take care of kids who were out of school. Some just weren’t comfortable coming to work. I don’t blame them. There’s a lot of reasons to be scared.
Since we’ve made the decision to temporarily suspend service, I do have a little extra breathing room in my schedule. Why not start that blog! I believe our clients and staff will find value in reading our posts. For those of you just getting to know us, I hope you find it helpful to understand what makes us tick. Choosing a housecleaning service requires a lot of trust – my hope is that by understanding more about the way we run our company, you can feel good about who you are inviting into your home.
Staying Updated
Current thinking (from reputable public health officials and data scientists, anyway) tells us that COVID-19 will be with us for a while. A vaccine is a year away if all goes perfectly, and herd immunity is unlikely in that time span, particularly given the propensity for RNA Viruses to mutate (although today we are seeing some hope that this particular coronavirus isn’t mutating quickly, meaning a vaccine could be a one-and-done deal).
Given this new medium-term reality, it will be important for us to regularly update our customers, staff and those interested in getting their house cleaned.
So, you can expect regular updates to this blog as the situation develops. I will cross-post to social media, too.
Something New
Finally, I ask for your patience as I navigate this and other forms of social media. I’m not a Luddite or a technophobe, but I have mixed emotions about social media and so have made an effort to keep my friends IRL, and my time on the various platforms short.
So while I’ve got some catching up to do, I’m looking forward to it.
Yours in safety and health,
Joe Walsh
